Christmas Tintype Pop-up

Brian will explain and guide you through the process of Wet-plate Collodion, where you will be the subject of a portrait.

You will be welcomed to Tin-Types by Alderleaf Artworks. Brian will show you the pouring of the aluminum plate and then submerging into the silver nitrate. You will then be seated and focused with his handmade large format camera, while the plate becomes sensitized in the silver nitrate. 

While in his darkroom Brian will retrieve the plate in a plate holder. After being inserted into the back of the camera. You will be asked to sit as still as possible for the exposure (1-2 seconds). 

Once plate is exposed Brian will then develop the plate in his darkroom where the plate will become a photo negative. 

After rinsing you will see the photo be introduced to the fixing solution and become your photo.

Finally after additional rinsing Brian will dry and varnish the image where you will be able to leave with your original Tin-type Image.
